PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a host device to identify a serial interface device even without setting of a unique serial number in every serial interface device at a manufacturing stage of the device. SOLUTION: The serial interface device, which communicates with a host device 20 via a serial interface, comprises storing means 1 for storing a specific address set by the host device 20 and received via the serial interface, and means for accepting a request by the host device 20 for acquisition of a serial number by which to identify the serial interface device 10, and returning, as the serial number, a value corresponding to the specific address stored in the storing means 1 to the host device 20 via the serial interface.
