<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of reducing replacement cost by allowing driving means to be separated from the fixing device, and holding a separation member so as to be spaced from a fixing member even when the driving means is separated from the fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: A fixing device having: a fixing member 21 to be heated by a heating source 24; a counter member 22 abutting on the fixing member 21 and forming a fixing nip N; and a separation member 23 abutting on the fixing member 21, for separating a recording medium P having passed through the fixing nip N from the fixing member 21, the fixing device being configured to be attachable/detachable to/from an image forming apparatus main body, comprises: abutting release direction urging means 29 for applying urging force in a direction releasing the abutment between the separation member 23 and the fixing member 21; and driving means 30 for driving the separation member 23 in a direction making the separation member 23 abut on the fixing member 21 against the urging force by the abutting release direction urging means 29.
