The method involves acquiring (4) a view (A) of the wheels (R1-3) associated with one side of the vehicle (1) to be classified, determining at least one characteristic property (m1,m2,DR,DF) of the wheels by evaluating the view and allocating the determined characteristic property to a vehicle class. The determined characteristic property can be the diameter or rim of the tire of at least one wheel. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for implementing the inventive method.
