PROCESS FOR DRAWING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for drawing an optical fiber which can draw the long-length and high-quality optical fiber having a uniform property in its longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: The process for drawing the optical fiber comprises steps wherein an ultraviolet-curing resin is applied using a resin coater 19 around an optical fiber 31 obtained by heat-drawing an optical fiber base material, and the applied ultraviolet-curing resin is cured by exposing it to ultraviolet irradiation inside ultraviolet curing ovens 20 and 21 which are serially and airtightly connected to the resin coater 19 via a cylindrical body 23. Drawing is performed while feeding an oxygen-free gas to the cylindrical body 23 and exhausting gas from a cylindrical body 24 which serially and mutually connects the ultraviolet curing ovens 20 and 21 with an exhaust pressure P1and from the downstream end of the ultraviolet curing oven 21 positioned downstream in the traveling direction of the optical fiber 31 with an exhaust pressure P2(>P1).
