Most people do not brush their teeth thoroughly nor intensively enough on a daily basis so as to keep the set of teeth healthy; most particularly, they often fail to clean the spaces between the teeth, resulting in the development of cavities and parodontitis and, in the long term, the destruction of the teeth and periodontium, arguably also diseases of the oral mucosa. The inventive combined electric toothbrush/interdental brush makes it easier to maintain good oral hygiene, cleaning the interdental spaces and other problematic areas that are not accessible to toothbrushes already while normally brushing the teeth. Said effect is obtained by means of a variably designed interdental brush which extends in short intervals from the set of bristles of the electric toothbrush and penetrates in an opportunistic manner into interdental spaces and plaque niches during brushing of the teeth. An integrated damping device limits the force that is applied to the teeth and the oral mucosa such that the interdental brush is extended only when said interdental brush does not encounter any obstacles. The cleaning effect is further increased by coupling the interdental brush to the main brush, whereby the dynamics of the main brush is transmitted all the way to the interdental space. |
