The motor vehicle has a folding top with an operating linkage with a rear end side clamp (21). A retaining strap (28) acts upon the clamp in its erect service position (Mt) and is fixed on the folding top (2) or on the vehicle and so keeps the clamp in the service position. The retaining strap is fastened by a first end (29) to the vehicle below the clamp, or to the folding top support bracket (15) or to the clamp. The second end of the retaining strap has a fastening device, preferably in the form of an eye or loop (32).
