PURPOSE: A magnetic disk separately having defect occurrence information in a servo area and a magnetic disk device for detecting the same are provided to control servo by recording the defect information to a separate area when defect is occurred in the servo area recorded on the magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic disk comprises a servo information field, a data information field, and a PID(Pseudo ID) field. A read/write channel(140) encodes/writes the data to be stored to the magnetic disk and detects/decodes the data read from the magnetic disk. A PID reading tool detects that the PID field is started whenever each data area is ended. A servo controlling tool controls servo by reading the defect information in the PID field. The PID reading tool comprises a PID interrupt generator(80), a PID window generator(70), and a read gate output signal generator(160). The servo controlling tool comprises an NRZ(Non-Return-to-Zero) data controller(50), a PID address detector(40), a defect information decoder(30), and a servo burst sampling timing generator(130).
