A method for producing a gas hydrate through reacting raw material water with a gas hydrate forming material under a condition suitable for the formation of the gas hydrate, wherein the gas hydrate is formed in the presence of a substance having the function of suppressing the decomposition of the gas hydrate, such as one or more ions selected from among a chlorine ion (Cl<->), a fluorine ion (F<->), a bromine ion (Br<->), an iodine ion (I<->), a sodium ion (Na<+>), a potassium ion (K<+>), a lithium ion (Li<+>), a calcium ion (Ca<2+>), a magnesium ion (Mg<2+>), an ammonium ion (NH4<+>), and the like, one or more metals selected from among zinc, iron, manganese and the like, or an ion of said metal.
