PURPOSE: Provided is an external application which characteristically contains selenium or its derivatives as active ingredients to inhibit the formation of melanin. Therefore, it has excellent skin whitening effect. CONSTITUTION: An external application composition is characterized by containing 0.001-20 wt.% of selenium or its derivatives, or their mixture, based on total weight of the composition. The selenium derivatives include selenium, selenium sulfide, selenium disulfide, or selenium aspartate.
