PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil improvement method enabling restraint of uneven settlement of ground for building an upper structure by forming a soil improvement layer composed mainly of slag. SOLUTION: According to this soil improvement method in which the soil improvement layer S composed mainly of slag is formed, the base of the soil improvement layer S is projected or recessed according to the distribution of stress in a ground caused by the weight of the upper structure B depending on the soil property of the ground G for building the upper structure B and the classification of structure of the upper structure B built on the ground G, L, or a plurality of piles H are driven from the soil improvement layer S to the ground G so that the surface connecting the tips of the piles H to each other is projected or recessed.
