PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a rectangular insulated wire for edgewise coil winding for forming a uniform film over the whole surface containing a corner part after baking, preventing the exposure of the conductor surface, eliminating the thickness difference between both ends even if the outside is stretched in edgewise coil winding, and having high conductor packing factor. SOLUTION: This rectangular insulated wire is manufactured by a rolling process of forming a rectangular conductor by rolling a round conductor; a corner part R trapezoid forming wire drawing process of forming a corner part R trapezoidal rectangular conductor 5 having the same cross section shape as a trapezoidal hole 1a by drawing the rectangular conductor with a trapezoidal die 1 having constant R-shaped corner parts k1, k2, k3, k4, comprising the upside (a), the base (b) longer than the upside (a), the sides (c), (d) longer than the base (b); and a coating material coating baking process of forming an insulating layer 6 by applying an insulating coating material to the outer periphery of the corner part R trapezoidal rectangular conductor 5 several times, then baking the coating material to form the rectangular insulated electric wire for the edgewise coil winding having a high insulating property.
