PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detection method for leakage hydrogen, in which the leaked hydrogen is changed into a substance having an odor, without preliminarily adding an odorizer to hydrogen so as to detect its leakage simply and surely and to obtain a detection apparatus for the leaked hydrogen. SOLUTION: In the detection method for the leaked hydrogen as the detection method for the leaked hydrogen, the leakage hydrogen is detected, in such a way that a nongaseous odor substance and a substance having a catalytic action with reference to the nongaseous odor substance and the hydrogen are made to coexist and that a substance having a gaseous odor is generated, when the leaked hydrogen comes into contact with the nongaseous odor substance. The detection apparatus for the leaked hydrogen is formed, in such a way that the nongaseous odor substance and the substance having the catalytic action with reference to the nongaseous odor substance, and the hydrogen are made to coexist on a support and that the substance having the gaseous odor is generated, when the leaked hydrogen comes into contact with the surface of the nongaseous odor substance.
