PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capsule endoscope which can prevent any dirt from being stuck on the front surface of an image pickup sensor even when a camera is adjusted in focus. SOLUTION: This capsule enclosure, hermetically sealed off with an external case 16 and a transparent cover 17, comprises a lens frame 20 at the center in opposition to the transparent hemispherically-shaped cover 17, where a first lens 24 is attached to constitute an objective optical system 21. On the back side of the lens frame 20, the image pickup sensor 23 mounted on a base board 22 is arranged. On the image pickup surface of the image pickup sensor 23, a transparent covering member 26, which is integrally molded with a second lens 25 serving as another component of the objective optical system 21, is positioned and fixed on the periphery of the image pickup area, leaving some distance with the image pickup area, before the lens focus adjustment is carried out. Therefore, when the single lens frame 20, after being interfitted to the second lens 25, is moved in the direction of the optical axis O for the focus adjustment, even if any dirt like a shaved refuse appears, this structure ensures to prevent the dirt from sticking on the image pickup surface of the image pickup sensor.
