<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balloon catheter for temporary occlusion capable of being acted as a guide wire, having a superior operating characteristic capable of being adapted for complex bent and branched blood vessels such as the coronary arteries or cerebral blood vessel and the like, capable of being inserted into the blood vessels while being followed to the guide wire and further capable of being sufficiently inserted into a terminal end of the blood vessel. <P>SOLUTION: The balloon catheter is comprised of a balloon made of a high extension material with a rupture elongation being from 300% to 1100% and a shaft having an outer diameter of 0.014 inch to 0.018 inch and made of a high resilient material with an elastic modulus in bending of 1 GPa or more. In the balloon catheter for temporary vascular occlusion, only the extremity end of the catheter has a lumen followed to the guide wire. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
