PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film of a magnetic recording medium to manufacture a magnetic tape which is less abrading to MR heads, excellent in tape run and durability with less dropouts and used in digital recording with a track pitch 6μm or less. SOLUTION: This polyester film of a magnetic recording medium has a film containing fine particles and organic chemicals on its one surface A, and this film has fine projections of the above fine particles on its surface. The number of the fine projections is 500 to 9000 million/mm<SP>2</SP>with their diameter (D) of 20 to 100 nm and their height (H) of 10 to 30 nm, and the density of the projections is 10% or less.
