The loading and unloading system for vehicle bodies (K) or vehicles transported on loading units (4) on railway trucks (3) transfers the units on to a trolley (8) and via a turntable (14) on to a conveyor (16) which passes them through work stations (SIII - SV). The vehicle bodies are then removed and the empty units fed back to the trucks via a second set of work stations (SVI - SIX).
