PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain new 3-chloro-6,7-dihydroxycoumarin and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The 3-chloro-6,7-dihydroxycoumarin is represented by formula (1). The method for producing the 3-chloro-6,7-dihydroxycoumarin comprises reacting 6,7-methylenedioxycoumarin represented by formula (2) with molecular chlorine in the presence of a chlorine compound, then adding water and hydrolyzing the resultant compound.
