The invention relates to a method for preparing an aromatic aldehyde by oxidizing a hydroxymethyl compound. According to the inventive method for preparing an aromatic aldehyde by oxidizing a corresponding hydromethyl compound, said hydromethyl compound is reacted with formaldehyde or a formaldehyde generator in the presence of an effective quantity of a microporous solid of type zeolite beta , containing silicon, tin, and/or titanium, and optionally aluminum. The invention particularly relates to the preparation of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde.
