PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a system accurately detecting a trapezoidal distortion in the projection image of a liquid-crystal projector or the like without enlarging a device. SOLUTION: A screen image is imaged through a projection optical system, and a focusing operation is conducted by the image and a distance up to a screen is detected. A plurality of specific patterns are generated on the screen and distances are measured by the above-mentioned focusing means respectively, the angle of inclination of the screen is detected, and the quantity of the projection image distorted is detected on the basis of the data.
