<p>It is intended to provide a blood bag system having one or more containers capable of holding a liquid and connecting tube(s) liquid-tightly attached to the containers, characterized in that an inactivator for inactivating pathogenic microorganisms contained in blood and/or an anticoagulant are contained in at least one of the containers and the inactivator comprises as the main component a platinum compound capable of binding to nucleic acids of the microorganisms or an aquo complex of the platinum compound, and a method of inactivating pathogenic microorganisms in blood with the use of the above-described platinum compound. Using the system or the method as described above, pathogenic microorganisms in blood are efficaciously inactivated and the inactivation effect is sustained over a long period of time. By neutralizing the thus inactivated blood followed by transfusion, it becomes possible to provide microbiologically and toxicologically safe blood preparations.</p> |
