PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use electric energy generated by the regeneration of a motor or a generator by controlling the operation of a transformer, and to solve the problem caused by the insufficient charge of an auxiliary power source. SOLUTION: A power unit comprises: a main power source 1 used as a drive power source for a motor; the auxiliary power source; the transformer 3 arranged between the main power source 1 and the auxiliary power source 2; and a current sensor 50 that detects an input current 11 fed to the transformer 3 from the main power source. A transformer control part 4a controls a switch in the transformer 3 so as to stop the operation of the transformer 3 when the input current 11 is lower than a prescribed stop threshold.
