Blocked mercaptosilanes, having the following general formula I (R1O)3Si-R2-S-C(=O)-C17H35 (I). which are produced by reacting the corresponding mercaptosilane (R1O)3Si-R2-SH with stearoyl chloride in the presence of an auxiliary base in a suitable organic solvent, the mixture is heated to boiling point to complete the reaction, it is filtered off from the solid residue that forms and the solvent is distilled off; the blocked mercaptosilanes can be used in rubber compounds.
