PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the seizure resistance and wear resistance of an antifriction bearing under the environment accompanied with sliding contact and the environment in which lubricating oil becomes depleted and to prolong its service life. SOLUTION: Carburizing or carbonitriding treatment is applied to a stock to which Si is added to dispersedly precipitate carbides or carbonitrides containing Si or Si-X (where X is one or more among Mn, Mo and Cr) in the rolling surface layer, and seizure resistance and wear resistance can be improved by the resultant self-lubricating action. The size of the carbides or carbonitrides is≤10μm to prevent flaking. Moreover, in order to attain sufficient self- lubrication action, the area ratio of the carbides or carbonitrides is 10 to 30%.
