Toric contact lenses are provided with markings (70, 80) that enable identification of the offset between the cylindrical axis (60) of the toric zone and the ballast axis (61). Surfaces of the lenses include two markings, a first identifiable marking (71) that is aligned with the cylindrical axis, and a second identifiable marking that is aligned with the ballast axis (81). The markings can be produced by using a mold with raised portions or by etching with laser radiation.
