PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for greatly shortening time of distilling out an organic solvent in an aqueous dispersion without employing a special apparatus for reducing pressure or the like. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aqueous resin dispersion comprises steps of charging a mixture containing a resin having an acidic group, a basic compound, an organic solvent and an aqueous medium into a hermetically closed container, dispersing the resin into the aqueous medium at a temperature (TL) or higher which is the lower one of boiling points at normal pressure of water and the organic solvent, and successively initiating distilling out of the organic solvent in the aqueous medium at the temperature (TL) or higher.
