PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program searching apparatus and a method for searching for a program being an object of interest by a user in a short time. SOLUTION: The program searching apparatus acquires program information from a broadcast wave transmitted from a broadcasting station or the Internet, obtains the number of words the same as a designated keyword by each program in character information denoting contents of each program, arranges names of each program in the order of the programs including the greater number of the words coincident with the keyword, and displays the program names on the screen of a display device. Further, the program searching apparatus obtains the number of appearance times of each cast on the programs from the program information data as to all the programs broadcast within a prescribed period and arranges and displays the names of each cast in the order of the greater number of total appearance times of each cast on the programs.
