The invention relates to a cutting unit (1) for a harvester-thresher, comprising a frame (2) forming a trough (6) consisting of a rear wall (3), two lateral walls (4) and a base (5) which is used as a cutting plane (5). Said frame receives an adjustable cutter bar (7) arranged on the open side of the trough; connection points which are located in the end regions of the cutter bar or the lateral walls (4) and are used to hold outer dividers (9), side cutters (10) or the like; a reel (12) which is arranged above the cutter bar (7) and can be displaced by means of actuators (11); and a feed screw (15) located inside the trough (6). The base (5) is transversally divided, and consists of a rear part (16) which is fixed to the frame and a front part (17) which is guided in a sliding manner in the direction of travel in relation to the frame, such that the length of the cutting plane can be adapted to the respective harvesting conditions, both base parts (16, 17) overlapping along the course of displacement. The aim of the invention is to produce a simple and functionally reliable construction. To this end, the front base part (17) can be inserted beneath the rear base part (16) when the cutting plane is shortened, and a cleaner (21) projecting from the front edge (20) of the rear base part (16)is provided as a transition element between the two base parts (16, 17).
