The invention relates to individual rescue equipment of the type that is used for rapid evacuation from elevated or high-altitude areas. The inventive equipment comprises: a safety harness (1); a support cable (2); means (3) of storing said support cable which are solidly connected to the safety harness; and means (4) of controlling the descent velocity. The invention is designed such that, once one free end of the support cable has been secured to a fixed point, the equipment can be used for rapid evacuation from elevated or high-altitude areas without the need for assistance.
