The invention relates to a mouthwash composition which consists of 0.001...0.35% w/v of thymol, 0.001...0.20% w/v of eucalyptol, 0.001...0.3% w/v of menthol, 0.001...0.3% w/v of methyl salicylate, 20...25% v/v of ethanol, a buffer system comprising 0.01...4.0% w/v of sodium benzoate and benzoic acid, in order to reach a pH value of 3.5...9, 0.01...0.8% w/v of a poly(oxyethylene)-polyoxypropilene) block copolymer and 0.01...10% w/v of an alcohol having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, the composition having an R factor ranging from 1 to 1.26.
