PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high throughput with a small device size (small number of registers) with respect to an error correcting and decoding device, which is used for decoding turbo codes. SOLUTION: Several backward processing modules 100, 110 and 120 are prepared. One backward processing module reads the data received and advance information, periodically and in reverse from memories 140 and 150 and calculates a backward value. The other backward modules are provided with received data and advance information, outputted from previously specified other backward processing modules and calculates a backward value. The backward processing module, which conduct reading from the memory, is changed cyclically. A forward processing and soft output generating module 130 generates soft output, by using a backward value calculated using a backward processing module which is one step ahead and reads data from the memory.
