PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a contamination resistant multi-layer coating film by which the multi-layer coating film is obtained that has excellent contamination resistance and durability. SOLUTION: The multi-layer coating film is formed by applying an intermediate coating material on a main material layer on a substrate as a top coating material to form a top 1st layer and further applying a contamination resistant top coating material thereon to form a top 2nd layer, where (1) the elongation of the main material layer alone is >=50% at 20 deg.C, (2) the tensile strength and the elongation of the top 1st layer alone is respectively >=50 kgf/cm<2> and >=40% at 20 deg.C and (3) the elongation of the top 2nd layer alone is >=30% at 20 deg.C and the contact angle with water after being left standing for 7 days at 20 deg.C under 65% humidity is <=60 deg..
