PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small sized shift lever for a vehicle. SOLUTION: The shift lever device 10 for the vehicle includes a base plate 20, a shift lever 30 supported swingably in vehicle longitudinal and lateral directions by the base plate 20 and a lever boss provided on the shift lever 30, a control lever 50 swinging interlockingly with swing of the shift lever 30 in the vehicle longitudinal direction and having a shift cable 51 connected thereon, a stopper 60 rotatably attached on the control lever 50 and rotating between a first position 60a preventing a select operation of the shift lever 30 in a P select direction from a P free position and a second position 60b allowing the select operation, and a stopper position control member 70 attached on the control lever 50 and positioning the stopper 30 in either of the first position 60a and the second position 60b.
