PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional pulp capable of affording a raw material for a product utilizable in various kinds of uses based on a pulp in which a compound reactive with hydroxy groups in cellulose is chemically bound and exhibiting excellent functions in the uses. SOLUTION: This functional pulp 15 is obtained by reacting the hydroxy groups 13 present on the surface of a natural pulp 12 with epoxy groups 14, carboxy groups or a halogen of at least one kind of reactant 11 selected from an epoxy compound, a carboxylic acid and a halide. In the functional pulp 15, the surface of the resultant pulp 16 is bound to a whiskerlike oligomer or polymer. Since the reactant 11 contains functional groups having various kinds of functions, the functional pulp 15 is designed to exhibit the functions such as deodorizing and antimicrobial functions. A paper product is obtained by converting the functional pulp 15 into a slurry state by stirring and dissolving and then forming a sheet. The functional pulp 15 can be composed as a filler for a synthetic resin. |
