The retaining device comprises a locking bolt (1) which serves especially for the locking of a folding seat back on the rear bench seat on a body part. The locking bolt can slide in a housing (2) and is releasably lockable at least in a not-in-use position. The locking bolt is movable from a not-in-use position into an in-use position in which it protrudes from the housing by means of a spring (12). The locking bolt is guided in a cylindrical bore (16) in the housing by means of a cylindrical guide component.
