Purification of a hydrocarbon-containing magnetizable waste material and/or waste gases containing metallic components involves drying the partially solid components of the waste material and/or waste gases, and optionally heating. Drying is carried out by feeding a hot liquid and/or hot gas to the removed component, and/or electrically, inductively or other heating of the removed component. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above process comprising a unit for magnetic removal.
