PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the performance and reliability of a disk array having a cluster constitution. SOLUTION: Parity groups of the disk array are dispersed and arranged among a disk column 211 (0, 02), a disk column 222 (1, 06), a disk column 233 (2, 10), and a disk column 244 (3, 14) of respective different collective disk devices 21, 22, 23, and 24 belonging to a plurality of different disk array devices. Thus, when an individual disk array device fails, data use is allowed by a data recovering procedure similar to that of a usual disk failure, and the performance of the disk array is optimized by changing the constitution of the parity groups in response to a type of load.
