PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for adjusting a wire guide vertical position accurately, easily, and inexpensively. SOLUTION: A wire 6 is tilted in the U-axis direction to allow contact only with a lower contact 8b (Fig. 3 (c)). The wire 6 is tilted to be fixed to upper and lower wire guides 5a and 5b, thereby losing play. A fixture 7 is moved to contact the wire 6 with the contact 8b, and the contact position Y1 is stored (Fig. 3 (a)). Then, the fixture 7 is moved in the X-axis direction, the wire 6 and an upper contact 8a are only brought into contact with each other, and the position Y2 is stored (Fig. 3 (d) and (b)). Based on an error Y1-Y2, a distance D between two contacts, and a distance H between guides 5a and 5b, wire vertical displacement in the V-axis direction is derived for correction. This process is repeated until the error Y1-Y2 becomes into a tolerance, and adjusting of the wire vertical displacement in the V-axis direction is finished. Vertical feed is made similarly for the wire vertical displacement in the U-axis direction.
