PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fibrous water absorbing resin practically and easily used. SOLUTION: This method for producing the fibrous water absorbing resin comprises processes to extrude a mixture comprising a prepolymer comprising a water soluble monomer mainly comprising acrylic acid and/or its salt, a polymer of the same and water, a photoinitiator and a crosslinking monomer to obtain a fibrous prepolymer, irradiate the fibrous prepolymer with UV rays to polymerize the water soluble monomer and the crosslinking monomer to harden the fibrous prepolymer.
