PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably generate the change of the arrangement state of liquid crystal molecules from an initial alignment state to a bend alignment state used for display at all many pixels in high yield and with low applied voltage, in an OCB type liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: A pixel electrode of the liquid crystal display element or an alignment layer in the vicinity thereof is locally irradiated with intensive light to impart vertical alignability thereto by heat and a vertical alignment state of a liquid crystal is locally formed. Since a bend alignment area is chain-likely expanded from the local vertical alignment area as a nucleus, the bend alignment state can be reliably obtained over the entire liquid crystal display element even if voltage applied between electrodes is low. |
