PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winch capable of selecting whether or not to provide a function of free fall. SOLUTION: In the winch provided with a hydraulic motor 1, a planetary speed reducing mechanism 3 connected to an output shaft of the hydraulic motor 1, and a winch drum 9 receiving rotation of the output shaft transmitted by the planetary speed reducing mechanism 3 and lifting and lowering a rope, a ring gear 6 of the planetary speed reducing mechanism 3 and the winch drum 9 are integrally provided, and a carrier 7 is provided separately from the winch drum 9. A carrier shaft 8 is provided on the carrier 7. The carrier shaft 8 is supported by a bearing 10. A spline shaft part 18 for respectively attaching and detaching a hand brake 11 braking the carrier shaft 8 and a lock mechanism 15 constantly fixing the carrier shaft 8 is provided more to the end part side of the carrier shaft 8 than a position of the bearing 10. The winch is composed so that either one of the hand brake 11 or the lock mechanism 15 can be selectively attached to the carrier shaft 8.
