An accumulating fuel injector, wherein, when an engine is stopped, a pump control valve installed in a high−pressure fuel pump is controlled so as to be fully closed so that a common rail pressure is not increased excessively when an engine speed (NE) is equal to or higher than a specified value &agr;, and opened when the engine speed (NE) lowers to the specified value &agr;, wherein, since the high−pressure fuel pump does not force−feed fuel though sucks the fuel, a specified amount of fuel is accumulated in the pump, whereby, since the pump can force−feed the fuel accumulated in the pump to the common rail when the engine is started next time, the force−feeding of air at the beginning of the start can be prevented, a fuel pressure necessary for the start of the engine can be provided in short time, and a time required for starting can be reduced.
