PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a tail deflection of discharged ink drops. SOLUTION: A first laser detector 20A and a second laser detector 20B are set, which include laser light sources and light receivers and can apply laser beams from different two directions onto a flying truck of ink drops discharged from nozzle openings. A control part 70 measures a shielding time of laser beams by ink drops on the basis of detection signals from these laser detectors 20, compares the shielding time measured by a shielding time- measuring means with a judgment reference value, and detects the tail deflection of ink drops. Moreover, the tail deflection of ink drops is prevented by adjusting a discharge pulse waveform on the basis of the detection signals from the laser detectors 20.
