PURPOSE: A device for recording and reproducing a cassette tape type audio data or signal is in the same size and shape with an audio cassette tape and provided to reproduce a digital audio file according to the winding speed of a tape without using any additional interface tape for cassette. CONSTITUTION: A device for recording and reproducing a cassette tape type audio data or signal includes a memory part(42) for recording or storing a digital audio file, and a control part(40) for decoding the digital audio file on the base of an output from the sensor or controlling the recording of the digital audio file. The memory part is to be one of a flash memory, a smartmedia and MMC(Multimedia Memory Card). After the power supply from a DC-DC part, the control part checks the rotation of the winding or rewinding reel for converting the device into a power saving mode if no rotation is detected.
