Reducing the formation of hydrocyanic acid and ethyl carbamate in fruit brandies or increasing and/or improving the aroma of spirits, comprising passing the distillate vapor through a bath containing a copper(I) salt, is new. An Independent claim is included for a liquid reactor for carrying out this process and comprising a pipe for the distillate, an inlet for the salt and aromatic agent, a distillate outlet, a condensate outlet, an outlet, a heating mantle and a thermometer.
