PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slagging accelerator which accelerates a dephosphorization treatment without forming fluorides in dephosphorization slag, and a dephosphorization method using the same accelerator. SOLUTION: (1) The slagging accelerator for dephosphorization slag contains, by mass, 37 to 60% CaO (concentration expressed in terms of pure content), 30 to 55% Al2 O3 and 4.9 to 21% T.Fe (total iron content). The same slagging accelerator desirably consists of a granulated composition. (2) In the dephosphorization of molten iron by adding the above slagging accelerator, quick lime and an iron oxide source thereto, the blending ratio of the quick lime to the blending amount of the slagging accelerator is controlled to 0.4 to 1.5, and the blending ratio of the iron oxide source to the blending amount of the slagging accelerator is controlled to 2.0 to 4.0.
