The invention relates to the controlling of contact requests by means of a shield in a data transfer network in the field of electronic communications. Using attributes associated with contact requests, the contact-requesting parties (CRP) are categorized into pals, agents and unknowns, the latter being considered potential harassers. Every contact-requesting party (CRP) must have a recommender authorized by the owner (VIP) of the shield so that on the basis of a letter of recommendation from a recommender an entry is made on at least one list of the shield in order to accept the contact request from a CRP.
