Heading C4P. - The invention provides water-soluble dyes of formula in which X is a hydrogen atom or a methoxy group and Y is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and Z is the anion of an acid. The dyes are prepared by coupling an amine of formula with 3 - methyl - benzthiazolone - 2 - hydrazone in the presence of an oxidizing agent e.g. ferric chloride. Examples of amines used are N.N-bis- (chloroethyl) - aniline, N.N - bis - (chloroethyl)- o - anisidine, N.N - bis - (chloroethyl) - cresidine and N.N bis - (chloroethyl) - m - toluidine. The dyes give blue-violet shades in polyacrylonitrile materials. |
