1,260,496. Toothed gearing. USM CORP. 31 Oct., 1969 [1 Nov., 1968], No. 53347/69. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division F1] A fluid (preferably air) motor comprises a non-rotatable flexspline (a toothed flexible sleeve) 20 with its teeth 18 engageable with the teeth 16 of a coaxial output gear 10 at circumferentially spaced zones thereon, separated by zones with no tooth engagement, and a fluid pressure actuated wave generator 28 having an annular membrane 32 arranged to contact a non-toothed surface of the flexspline at the zones of tooth engagement and forming with a fixed drum 30 an annular series of chambers 40 which are inflated cyclically to cause a wave-like deformation of the flexspline to impart rotation to the output gear. As shown, the membrane 32 extends round the outer surface of the drum 30 and is sealed to the ends thereof by end plates 34, 36 and wires 41. Axial rods 38 grip the membrane in slots of the drum to form the chambers 40. Diametrical bores 58, 60, 62, 64 connect respective pairs of chambers 40 to inlet bores 50, 52, 54, 56 through which pressure fluid is admitted in turn by valving (not shown) to inflate successive pairs of chambers. The output gear 10 has two, or a multiple of two, more teeth than the flexspline. |
