PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting apparatus and a method for electromagnetic wave by which tera-hertz electromagnetic frequency spectrum and waveform can be accurately measured. SOLUTION: The detecting apparatus for of the electromagnetic wave includes a pulse light generating means and a means to detect the electromagnetic wave through radiation of the electromagnetic wave and radiation of the pulse light wherein the pulse light is emitted to detect the electromagnetic wave, and the pulse light and the electromagnetic wave to be detected are radiated from the same side with regard to the detecting means.
