PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic balance/scale reducing power consumption by minimizing lighting of an illuminating means illuminating an indicator and preventing a reading error of a measurement value displayed on the indicator even in an operating environment with unfavorable illumination conditions. SOLUTION: A lamp 5 used as the illuminating means and an illuminance sensor 6 detecting peripheral brightness of the indicator 4 are arranged near the indicator 4. Whether or not the peripheral brightness of the indicator 4 satisfies a predetermined brightness and whether or not a measurement value is stable are determined by a CPU 3. If the peripheral brightness of the indicator 4 does not satisfy the predetermined brightness and the measurement value is stable, the lamp 5 is lighted for a predetermined time.
